Trailer Research

I was looking through different trailers on Youtube and I found this trailer for mockumentary "Sunflower Hour" and I found it quite similar to what I had in mind about our own trailer.
It has same opening as I thought about, where captions come between different clips from mockumentary itself with a voiceover. It also shows something like life of young people, which in our case would be life of student, in a pretty ridiculous way making fun of them and showing it not in serious way but it does show it funny and kind of truthfully. Our mockumentary has same angle, mocking everyday life of students showing them in serious way but it's obviously looks ridiculous in eyes of audience.

Costume Research

As I'm playing the student, I thought it would be a good idea to do some research in to what a typical student looks like. However from viewing people around college, there is no 'typical' student look; some people wear band t-shirts and ripped jeans, others jackets and skinny jeans. Because of this, I decided to go for a 'plain' look.

For this, blue or black denim jeans are a must have. These are a staple of most students outfits, and so are a must-have for our student. These can be bought for around £10 from a shop such as Primark, however I already own some blue 'slim' fit jeans - not baggy but not skin tight. These will be suitable for our production

Any kind of white or black t-shirt would be suitable for a plain look, however if we do go for black jeans a black t-shirt will seem quite overpowering and give the impression of a dark, depressed character, which is not something we want. For this reason I think a plain white or a printed white t-shirt will be suitable. Something like this can be bought again from somewhere like Primark for around £6-8. I already own a few white printed shirts which may be suitable to use.

For footwear, there is a recent trend of wearing Converse or Vans made shoes. These may be useful to make the production feel up-to-date and recent, but if not any generic trainers may be used. I do own multiple pairs of Converse and a pair of Vans shoes, so this wont be a problem to for me to use.
Finally I feel a coat or jacket is necessary, as this can be a plain coat and will detract attention from the overall outfit and the 'how fashionable are they' question. A simple black or grey coat will be okay to use. I do own a dark blue waterproof jacket and a grey-ish duffel coat, both of which would be suitable for use.

Overall the student's outfit will be plain and simple, and be nothing radical to make them stand out. The idea is to have the student appear to be 'average' and 'normal', so wearing plain clothes such as blue jeans and a white shirt will make them seem more normal to fit in with the rest of the college.

Filming Day 1 - Cast, Crew, Equipment & Props

Filming day 1 will take place in the Subjects house. These scenes mostly involve the subject, but there is a single shot involving the narrator so he will be needed also. As it is set in the subjects house, there wont be a large amount of props required as most of the 'homely' items will already be present. Some empty cans, messy clothes and old pots will be useful for the students bedroom. As 2 of 4 members will be on film, the other 2 will be required to film with different cameras to capture different angles.

CAST:
Callum Norton - 'Subject'
Alex Grigoryev - 'Donvid Artenburg (narrator)'

CREW:
Josh Perree - Camera 1
Ben Lucas - Camera 2

EQUIPMENT:
Camera and tape taken from the store
2 Tripods
Josh's DLSR

PROPS:
General rubbish (Pizza box, empty crisp packets, empty cans of drinks)
Clothes thrown around bedroom
Unwashed pots and cups
Cereal (Including dish, milk, spoon and cereal)

Possible Distributor

After looking around at possible distributors for our mockumentary I've found one that could suit what we need. I tried to look at what other similar films were distributed by but all it turned up was BBC and 20th Century Fox, both extremely large companies who more than likely wouldn't do the honours of distributing our film. Although saying that, 'Monty Python's Flying Circus' was distributed by BBC, but that is probably due to it being their own TV show.

The narrative in our film is done by 'Donvid Artenburg', or known as Alex Grigoryev to the people in the real world (us). He's a Russian so after looking around, I found a rather fitting distributer who deal in both independent and foreign language films. Both these categories could fit our film as he speak with a Russian accent.

The company that I'm talking about is Axiom, they're a UK based company so they are quite ideal for us. They mainly deal in independent films and some of their latest works include:

Edd Hardy: Tattoo the World
About Elly
Paris ,Texas
Dark Horse

I personally have never heard of these films, so they are quite a low-key  company, or the products they sell are low-key would be fitting.

Distributor Research

I have looked at a few Film Distributors which have previously distributed documentary films which would be appropriate for our film.

The first distributor I looked as was 'Revolver Entertainment' who have released such films as 'Super High Me' and 'Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon' which are both popular documentaries in both the UK and US.

The company also has offices in London and LA which means if the film got enough success we
could look at releasing it in the States.
Another company I have looked at is called Dogwoof who mainly distribute Documentary films
of smaller budgets and exposure that its rivals of the larger kind aren't usually interested in
but have films such as 'Being Elmo' and 'Undefeated'.
This could be good for our film as they have experience in small budget documentaries and how
to distribute them.
Like Revolver they have offices in the US aswel as in the UK which would benefit our film for
 the global market.
